Exciting New Comic Series ‘Fish Superpowers!’ to Inspire Young Minds in Aquaculture and Sustainability
BioAqua’s journey into the world of aquaculture is reaching new audiences—school children! In 2025, BioAqua will launch ‘Fish Superpowers!’, an educational comic series designed to engage young minds in the fascinating, essential world of aquaculture. With lively characters and imaginative storytelling, this comic brings to life the science behind fish health, aquaculture, and sustainable practices.
As part of BIOAQUA’s commitment to creative outreach, the comic series was developed by a collaborative team from several working groups dedicated to exploring innovative biomolecular solutions for aquaculture. The story follows three spirited fish, Finley, Bubbles, and Flash, as they discover the magic of healthy nutrition, ‘super feeds’, and the role they play in the ecosystem. This comic aims to simplify complex scientific concepts into playful, accessible adventures for children.
The comic’s development was inspired by a series of creative workshops led by Dr Rajat Nag (WG3 leader). Building on BIOAQUA’s core mission, the workshops united members from WG2, WG3, and WG4 to brainstorm, shape ideas, and transform real-world scientific objectives into engaging educational content. “The purpose was to make aquaculture and
environmental science relatable to kids,” says Rajat. “By illustrating these concepts through stories, we’re planting seeds for the next generation of environmentally aware citizens.”
Each chapter introduces young readers to a new theme, from fish nutrition to ecosystem protection, making scientific concepts accessible and exciting. Key topics, such as One Health, aquaculture, and sustainability, are woven into the adventures, with characters who embody curiosity, caution, and excitement about exploring new ideas and challenges.
Through this format, children will learn about the interconnections between fish health, clean water, and environmental impact.
Launching in 2025, ‘Fish Superpowers!’ will be available online and distributed in schools and aquaculture education programs across Europe. This initiative aligns with BIOAQUA’s mission of fostering knowledge exchange, research, and youth involvement in aquaculture.
The comic series also provides a springboard for further outreach, with plans to create related interactive materials and events to deepen engagement with young audiences. As BIOAQUA’s community continues its research on biomolecular solutions for aquaculture, ‘Fish Superpowers!’ serves as a unique platform to communicate science creatively and foster awareness about aquaculture’s role in a sustainable future.
